Bristol and North Somerset Botanical Painting Society (BNSBPS)
40th Anniversary Rose - Watercolour by Brenda Wright
The idea of a Society for Botanical art in North Somerset arose from a discussion amongst students of Annie Morris at a workshop in the spring of 2007. Our inaugural meeting was held on 28th June in that year when it was decided that the sixteen interested artists constituted a sufficient number to found the society. We held a coffee morning to raise funds and advertise our presence using the local Press and we then settled down to paint every Thursday in the very hospitable surroundings of Brackenwoodand Plant Garden Centre. We have thrived since the beginning, holding regular Exhibitions and Workshops as well as enjoying painting in the company of friends. There have been changes; we decided to add Bristol to our name, we changed our meeting day from Thursdays to Tuesdays, we subsequently had to add Wednesdays as well as our group flourished. An excellent Cafe now uses our initial space which means that we now paint in a purpose built room in the garden Centre. From a small beginning we have firmly established Botanical Art in the Bristol and North Somerset area.
